  • Guillermo del Toro Talks FRANKENSTEIN and THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON

Guillmero del Toro has stated several times that Frankenstein is his dream project. It's my dream to see him have his dream come true because I really want to see that movie! In a recent interview with Badass Digest the director talked about the project:

"If I do Frankenstein, I literally would stop everything, and I'm going to a sabbatical of three years, just to write that. It's not something that's gonna just flow, like second nature. It's my favorite book in history.

"I would love to do [Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein]. Hopefully one day it coincides that Donna [Langley] wants to do it and I am not a chicken shit."

Universal Pictures needs to make this happen, and it's not something that is impossible. Writer and producer Alex Kurtzman is working on developing several Universal monster movie projects, and in an interview with Collider, he was asked if Del Toro could be a part of Frankenstein. This is what he said:

"Nothing would make us happier. We’re only at the beginning exploratory phase of all of it, but I’m a crazy huge Guillermo del Toro fan. So, anything he wants to be involved in, we’d be honored."

I hope they actually do let him make it and do it his way. The filmmaker also says he would like to tackle The Creature from the Black Lagoon, which would be freakin' awesome! He says,

"I think that it's a great universe to develop. I personally think that they should all be period movies. I would love to see Creature from the Black Lagoon in Victorian England with the Victorian exploration, with a balloon and steam riverboats."

I wish that Universal had brought on Del Toro to create their monster movie universe instead of Kurtzman. Hopefully they actually do let him come in to play.
