Waaaay back in 2011 it was reported that Lionsgate was looking to make a movie based off of the hit game “Dead Island.” This was around the time that every movie studio was trying to get their hands on a hot video game property. And like many of those similar announcements, nothing really came of this partnership.
But now it looks like new life is being injected into the potential movie adaptation as “Dead Island” publisher Deep Silver has announced that they are partnering up with Occupant Entertainment to produce a live action adaptation of “Dead Island.” According to a press release, “Occupant plans to attach a filmmaker and fast track the project for a production start in Q1 of 2015.” Of course, those plans could easily change.
Here’s what Koch Media (Deep Silver’s parent company) CEO, Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, had to say about the announcement:
The Dead Island universe offers a rich and unique setting that can expand beyond the pure gaming experience. We are very much looking forward to seeing Dead Island open up to new audiences and showing off the fun everybody at Deep Silver has with this brand.
“Dead Island” was a zombie themed survival horror game that was set on a fictional tropical island resort. You played as one of four characters as you tried to find a way off the island before the zombies consumed you. It also received a great deal of attention for putting out a fantastic trailer. You can check that out below.
The next entry in the series, “Dead Island 2″, is expected to release in the spring of next year.
