Doctor Who star Matt Smith seems to enjoy making movies with zombies in them. He’s currently playing the role of Mr. Collins in the feature film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and now he’s been cast as the lead in a new zombie movie called Patient Zero. Smith will star opposite Natalie Dormer in Screen Gem’s film production.
According to Deadline, the story centers on an “unprecedented global pandemic of a super strain of rabies [which] has resulted in the evolution of a new species driven by violence. An inexplicably immune human survivor with the ability to communicate with this new species must spearhead a hunt for Patient Zero in order to find a cure to save his infected wife and humanity.”
Smith has been busy since he left Doctor Who. He’s a part of Ryan Gosling’s dark fantasy feature Lost River and will appear alongside Emilia Clarke in the upcoming Terminator: Genisys. I do really miss him as The Doctor, though.
Patient Zero sounds like it will be a fun genre feature worth checking out. It’s set to be directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky from a script written by Mike Le.
