We've been hearing all along that Ridley Scott would be coming back to direct Blade Runner 2, but today I bring you some sad news. Scott will not be directing the Blade Runner sequel, and I'm really bummed out by this. Him directing the movie was one of the only reasons I was so excited about it.
Scott will still produce the film, and a new director will fill Scott's directing chair. The plan is to shoot the movie in 2015. As for whether or not Harrison Ford will be a part of the sequel, Scott says we can expect to see the actor, but it will only be in the film’s third act. According to Scott, the story is about “finding him.” Him, as in Ford's character, Deckard.
This is what the director had to say about the film in an interview with Variety :
We talked at length about what it could be, and came up with a pretty strong three-act storyline, and it all makes sense in terms of how it relates to the first one. Harrison is very much part of this one, but really it’s about finding him; he comes in in the third act.
The report then adds the following disappointing bit of information:
Per Scott, that Alcon Entertainment production should go before the cameras within the next year, but with someone else directing (he’ll produce).
There's no word on who might take Scott's place, but I hope that it's someone that will spark some excitement back in me, because after hearing this news, it has fizzled out.
