It has been years since I've read Mad Magazine. I don't think I've picked up a copy since I was in high school. The pop culture magazine is known for spoofing pretty much everything for a laugh, and in issue #532 , they will be taking on J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Thanks to /Film we have the magazine cover and a tease of what you will find inside. The issue features a two-page spread for the film, and it hits the iPad on February 13th and newsstands on February 24th.
The art that you see here was done by Herman Mejia, and the story was written by Mike Morse. MAD Editor in Chief John Ficarra. had this to say about the issue in an interview:
"We’ve been wanting to do it for years! We first had the idea back in 1981, but they hadn’t even announced Return of the Jedi yet, so just sat on it and sat on it. But the excitement finally got the better of us, which is why we published it now and didn’t wait till December."
When asked if we would see more Star Wars spoofs leading up to the release of The force Awakens he said,
"Maybe, but we like to keep our options open so we’re sure to always give our readers what they want. Other sequels besides Force Awakens that we’re considering spoofing are Jupiter Ascending 2: Still Ascending, The Interview Part II: Merkel Mayhem, and the sequel to The Boy Next Door, The Boy Next Door, Too: That Kid Two Doors Down. (We’re going to stop now.)"
