With Ex Machina star Alicia Vikander choosing Bourne 5 over Assassin's Creed, a major female role in the movie was left vacant. But it didn't stay that way for long, since Deadline reports that actress Ariane Labed has scored the role opposite Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard in the long-awaited film adaptation of the popular video game series.
Labed isn't very well-known to American audiences, but she's apparently something of a sensation overseas, most recently earning high praise for her role in The Lobster at this year's Cannes Film Festival. You may remember her as the young lady at the big family lunch scene in Greece with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy in Richard Linklater's Before Midnight.
There's still no word on exactly which character she'll be playing, but I'm sure fans are hoping she'll be a female assassin. It's unclear which game (or games) is going to be the basis for this first entry in the film series — because come on, this is obviously going to be at least a trilogy — but if they incorporate anything from Assassin's Creed Syndicate, there's a playable female assassin there that might be a good fit for Labed. What do you think?
