  • UNCHARTED Movie Loses Director and Enters Development Hell

As a huge fan of the Uncharted video game franchise, I've actually been very excited about seeing what Sony Pictures does with a film adaptation. This property has the potential to be a huge franchise, but apparently the film has now entered development hell, and it's well on it's way to being a shitty adaptation.

The movie was supposed to be directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses, The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters), from a script written by David Guggenheim (Safe House). Heroic Hollywood is now reporting that Gordon has left the project, and there are issues with the budget.

Apparently Tom Rothman, who was behind the failure of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, came in and wanted to cut the budget for the film drastically. According to the report, "Sony was hoping this was their Indiana Jones and Rothman is looking at it like Resident Evil."

So why did they hire Rothman to oversee this project? Because for some reason the studio hired him as the new President of Sony Pictures after Amy Pascal stepped down following the e-mail hack. Can they fire him to get it back on track? The fans of the franchise don't want a cheap-looking piece of shit film! We want a movie that is at least as good as the video game that it's based on. Why would they take some something amazing, and then make an inferior product!? Some of these Hollywood executives still have so much to learn. You'd think Rothman would have learned from his past mistakes. I guess not.

I'd rather not see an Uncharted movie happen at all if they are going to get lazy and cheap with it.
