just depends on the album. if some clown puts out a disk with 3/12 good tracks, mp3 all the way. if it's solid most of, or all the way through - hard disk, reward the effort.

this is especially true with non hip hop albums, as the music itself is much more elaborate - i just feel better having the true source. especially since the scene switched off version 3.90.3 - i just don't care for these lower bitrates.

yes, but if you can't listen to it without cringing or covering your ears..what good is it?

i see people with this attitude all the time driving down the street - distortion on full blast. Usually in a souped up dodge neon or some other beater. I just shake my head and keep moving.

this could start a whole new discussion about how engineers nowadays just crank up the gain on everything. i guess the science is the louder it is the more likely people will listen to it. go listen to your cd's from the early 90's and notice the volume difference on them compared to now.

i guess it all comes down the quality of the system you are playing it on too. to notice much between different sources or bitrates on an ipod or some crappy bookshelf systen is probably close to impossible with the possible exception of those with an extremely fine-tuned ear.

to each their own as usual.....

No it's not. That's like saying "water is water...I'm not picky about quality." Yeah, you *could* drink the brown water and live, but do you want to?

Who wants to listen to music in garbage quality?

but the artist worked hard to make the music, why should people get this for free?

i am a hypocrite since i've downloaded in the past, but in all honesty i purchase all music now.

if i was a musician and knew people were downloading my work for free i would be pissed too.

I agree with you on this one here. Take this for example

Billie Jean ripped from 1982 original vinyl 24bit/96hz vs 2004 Ultimate Edition Release track (converted to 320kbps for streaming purposes)

                    Billie Jean 1982 vs 2004 Ultimate Edition.mp3 - DivShare

I think people will be surprised at the difference.

I have to disagree. Yes we download 2pac ogz but most of us buy retail albums sometimes more than one copy. I even have 3 copies of pacs

yeah the songs on the ultimate edition sound fucking horrible, over compressed and distorted. I have a rip from the original thriller cd and the difference is like night and day.

I will upload a flac version when I get a chance. So you guys can hear it how it should be.

I have both 24/96khz OG vinyl FLAC rip, and FLAC of OG press CD of michaels albums, they sound crystal clear. I wonder why this stupid music industry thinks making their music louder will make it sound better lol.

on a somewhat related note....has anyone compared some of the - i guess - webrips that have dropped a week or so before the 'group' rip has lately? i'm thinking of the kid cudi album specifically at the moment but - i almost want to say the webrip 'sounds' better, maybe in part because it's not so loud? my first pass through the offical rip pierced my ears in a couple spots that it hadn't before. or at least sounded more distorted.

maybe it's just me. though i had something on top of the tv that I noticed was rattling that I have since removed, so that coulda been part of it too.
