Chicago police have confirmed that a boy's body found in a sports utility vehicle is that of Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson's seven-year-old nephew.
ulian King had not been seen since Friday, the same day the star's mother and brother were found shot dead in their home.
Dreamgirls star Jennifer Hudson identified her nephew's body at the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
She had previously offered a $100,000 reward for the safe return of the boy, who was the son of her sister Julia Hudson.
Chicago police superintendent Jody Weis said his department's detectives "will continue to work around the clock to make sure that justice is served".
While Supt Weis said it was too soon to guess at a motive, he said police believe "it wasn't the case of a stranger homicide".
He added that police have not yet identified a suspect in the case but the boy's stepfather, William Balfour, is considered a "person of interest".
Balfour, the estranged husband of Julia, who was taken into custody for questioning on Friday, is being held on a parole violation but has not been charged.
Julian's body was found in a 1994 white Chevrolet Suburban vehicle in Chicago.
Authorities had issued an amber alert for the seven-year-old on Friday amid fears he may have been abducted in a vehicle belonging to Hudson's brother.
Jason Hudson, 29, and Darnell Donerson, 59, were found shot dead in the home they shared with Julian and his mother.
Balfour, who is not Julian's father, had already been listed as a suspect in a "double homicide investigation".
The 27-year-old has previous convictions for attempted murder, vehicle hijacking and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
