In my opinion James Brown's 'The Payback' was the first ever "rap" song to ever be recorded.
"I can do wheelin'
Can do dealin'
But I don't do no damn squealin'
I can do rappin'
I'm ready to do scrappin'
But I don't dig that back stabbin'"
Those lyrics right there is what eventually transformed into rap music. What do you all think? Was there a song before 'The Payback' that was more rap than James Brown's song? Share.
