A serial killer is "a person who attacks and kills victims one by one in a series of incidents." When Cypress Hill frontman B-Real conceptualized his next group effort, he envisioned putting together a team of emcees with the sole purpose of murdering every track and any competition. The end result brought him to west coast legend Xzibit.
At the time, both were sharing a studio in Los Angeles and were working with an up-and-coming emcee by the name of Demrick (formerly known as Young De). While working in the studio, the three began collaborating on songs and as Xzibit stated in a recent interview, "It was organic and took a natural progression."
Back in 2010, Demrick first revealed news of the group. While excited about the notion of being asked to join a group with two hip-hop legends, he said schedules would keep the group from completing the project anytime soon. Still, the trio continued working together, and though it took nearly three years later, the Serial Killers has come to fruition.
In a recent interview for B-Real's "Smoke Box" series, Xzibit expressed his excitement about the group, saying: "The music was organic. We hang around each other all the time, so it was just a natural progression. We made some real killer cuts. No pun intended."
The first project will be a mixtape, set for Halloween, called Serial Killers, Vol. 1. Details are unknown, but the group has filmed a video for a cut called "First 48." Check out the BTS below.
Serial Killers, Vol. 1 drops October 31st.
