My favourites "lists" are constantly changing.
From some artists- I enjoy several albums and others just a handful of tracks.
Side Note:
- Lately, I've been throwing together lists/compilations by the year- rather than artist, area, or style.
- Compilations include some of my favz + commercial hits (provided they don't annoy the f out of me).
- It interesting to hear and compare the variety of vibes
- my favourite 5 year period is 1993 to 1997 (Although I do like enough stuff from 1990-1999)
---> perhaps a new thread asking for top 20 songs from each year (max 2 tracks per artist/album)?
With that said, here's my favourite East Coast artists/groups in alphabetical order:
TOP 20:
01- AZ
02- Beastie Boys
03- Black Moon
04- Black Star

50 and Jay have charisma and that pop appeal which rappers like Nas and all these Shaolin Kung Fu dudes don't

You didn't specify NYC so for me it's DMX by a landslide. I had to find out who he was when I first heard him on The Lox's Money, Power, Respect. I was like, "who is THAT?!" lol. It's Dark And Hell Is Hot, Flesh Of My Flesh Blood Of My Blood, And Then There Was X, The Great Depression & Grand Champ were my shit. Even had a little silver Ruff Ryders piece for my silver chain at the time. The rap game was his for that 5-year run of '98 to '03. He was top dog. Got to see him at the '99 Hard Knock Life Tour that also included the rest of the Ruff Ryders (The Lox, Drag-On, Eve), Roc A Fella (Jay-Z, Memphis Bleek, Beanie Siegel), Ja Rule, Method Man & Redman. Great concert to end the 90's.

The Fugees are one of my favorite groups ever. None of them are individually my favorite rapper, but Fugees The Score is one of the most influentual albums ever for me. I work festivals and concerts for a living and I can say Wyclef Jean puts on one of the livest shows I've ever seen in my life.
Biggie, Big L, Wu-Tang, Redman, Busta Rhymes, Mos Def & Kweli, man I can go on and on
New School....man J Cole and them boys are fire. His label has the dopest........fucking Earthgang & JID!!!!!
