Guerilla Union -- the organizers behind popular festivals like Paid Dues, Rock The Bells and Cypress Hill' Smokeout -- announced this week the first annual Dr. Greenthumb's Spring Gathering, set to go down in San Bernardino, Calif. on May 8th.
The event will launch as an epic cannabis culture experience, encompassing a music festival and medical marijuana expo. It will feature musical acts like Method Man & Redman, the Kottonmouth Kings, Rebelutions, Fishbone, Hed (PE), and MC Supernatural.
For those who don't know. Dr. Greenthumb is B-Real's (Cypress Hill fame) alter-ego. He's excited to get the Spring Gathering off the ground.
"I am thrilled to have my own platform to promote medical marijuana and legalization," he said. "This event is just the beginning of many efforts that will support California's budding medical marijuana industry."
The inaugural Spring Gathering will serve to create awareness around the cannabis counter-culture, while highlighting world-class musical acts who support it.
This will be Method Man & Redman's first headlining festival performance on the west coast in 2010. The dynamic stoner duo are the perfect ambassadors for the inaugural launch because they have been supporting the legalization of medical marijuana for nearly 20 years.
Co-headliner Kottonmouth Kings are slated for an exclusive performance featuring songs from their new record, Long Live the Kings, scheduled for an April 20th release. The event will also serve as the group's official Southern California album release party.
Santa Barbara's Cali-Reggae juggernaut, Rebelution, will make a rare Southern California festival appearance.
"We really needed to develop this platform in the Spring. Now, we can have a year-round program (along with Cypress Hill's SmokeOut in the fall) that supports our medical marijuana efforts," says Guerilla Union's Chang Weisberg. "Music is a powerful tool that will help spread our movement and help B-Real realize his medical marijuana and legalization dreams."
In addition to the music portion, fans will experience the Spring Gathering Medical Marijuana Expo, which includes the infamous V.I.P. (Very Important Pot smoker) private party and a glass art showcase.
Dr. Greenthumb and B-Real will be hosting the day-long event. B-Real will be the keynote speaker of the expo where he will be sharing his opinions and expertise on California's medical marijuana legislation. And, he'll be performing material from his solo album, Smoke N Mirrors.
There will also be a wide range of guest speakers and celebrity appearances focused on cannabis education, legal workshops and grow tips, in addition to massive munchie gardens, vendor village and surprise performances.
A full schedule of activities will be unveiled in the coming days.
