  • Producer Johnny J Remembered - Funeral Services this Saturday

Johnny Jackson, known to the entertainment industry as Johnny "J", was a stellar and talented multi-platinum producer and songwriter (and former rapper), who was perhaps best known for his production on Tupac Shakur albums such as All Eyez on Me and Me Against the World. He was born in Juárez, Mexico in 1969 and raised in South Central Los Angeles. He attended Washington High in Los Angeles and began his music career as a drummer in high school. In 1990, he produced the single "Knockin' Boots" for his (Washington High) classmate Candyman, for the album, No Shame in My Game, which eventually went platinum thanks to the aforementioned single. After the numerous nominations for Candyman, Johnny "J" met 2Pac and recorded nine tracks with him in three days. Johnny then went on to produce "Pour Out a Little Liquor" which appeared on the Above The Rim soundtrack and 2Pac's Thug Life album. The soundtrack went double platinum and won the Soundtrack of The Year Award at the 1995 Source Awards. Also, in 1995, Johnny "J" released his debut rap album, I Gotta Be Me, which spawned two singles: "Get Away From Me" and "Dig Um' Out". Jackson produced the entire album. Johnny produced the track "Death Around the Corner" which ended up on 2Pac's third solo album, Me Against The World. This album was quite successful. In 1996, Johnny "J" helped produce on 2Pac's Death Row Records Debut, All Eyez On Me. He produced several chart-topping hits on the album. The album is one of the most influential albums in hip hop history, and according to the RIAA, 9 million copies of the album were sold in the United States alone by June 18, 1998. Johnny had composed a few music scores in such films as Gridlock'd. His productions ended up on movie soundtracks like SuperCop and Blood Diamond. During his career, he worked with such artists as Big Syke, Craig Mack, Jon B, K-Ci & JoJo, WC, Bizzy Bone, CJ Mac and Chamillionaire.

Before his death, he was diligently working on an album for actor/singer Tatyana Ali ("The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air"). Johnny "J" was co-owner and CEO of Klock Work Entertainment. He was a man of great integrity and possessed an unmatched work ethic. He was passionate about his artists and his family. He is survived by his wife, Capucine and three children, Malaysia, Niamyja and Zhani. Funeral Services will be held this Saturday, October 11, at 10am. It will take place at Brookins Community Church, located at 4831 South Gramercy Place in Los Angeles (90062).

Has there been any updates on how Jay died? I don't believe he jumped, it seems to have gone very quiet since the funneral
As far as anybody in the rap game ever tryin' to assassinate my character, that's impossible. You talkin' about a man who has always walked the walk and talked the talk.

That's what I thought at first too homie...like he got pushed or somethin

Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature's law is wrong it learned to walk with out having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping it's dreams, it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else ever cared.
