  • BET's American Gangster Returns For Third Season, Tupac's Stepfather Profiled

BET's popular hit series "American Gangster" is set to return for a third season with a new group of criminal profiles beginning later this month.

Narrated by actor Ving Rhames, this year's series will feature in-depth looks at the lives of well-known felons including "Monster" Kody, Larry Davis, J. Edgar Hoover plus Mutulu Shakur who was the stepfather to the late rap star Tupac Shakur.

Focused on expanding viewers perceptions of the glorified "gangster" often portrayed in films and television, the series returns after two popular seasons that included inside looks at iconic drug dealers Ricky Ross, Nicky Barnes and Frank Lucas whom the film American Gangster was based upon.

The show's season premiere begins Thursday, October 23 at 10 p.m. EST.

In related news, former Tupac producer Johnny J (born Johnny Jackson) committed suicide earlier this week while locked in Los Angeles County Jail.

According to TMZ, the famous beat maker was recently placed in lock up for a DUI. Authorities reportedly claim he killed himself by jumping off a tier while in jail.

J is known for his work on Pac's classic All Eyez on Me in addition to helping create the 90s record "Knockin' Boots" by Candyman.
