Despite the current economic downturn, Houston rapper Paul Wall says the grills are still selling and are as hot as ever.
Paul Wall told SOHH exclusively that he's aware of the effects of the recession but his custom jewelry and bejeweled teeth business is still thriving.
"Oh yeah it's definitely been slow. All around the mall stores are closing down. One thing though, sports and entertainment are still thriving so there's still movie stars and athletes. They still got two commas coming on their pay check everytime so they come up in the mall and ball out like it ain't a recession. So we get to receive those benefits here and there." (SOHH)
Wall, who collaborated with Nelly on his 2005 hit "Grillz" has been selling the blinged out mouthpieces with his business partner, Johnny Dang, since 1998.
"They been around for years before us but we started doing them back in '98. There was a guy from New York. He came down from Brooklyn came to Houston. He started promoting the removable style. That's when it kinda just took off to a whole 'nother level. We started opening up stores in the hood. Then we went to opening up stores in the malls." (YouTube).
Paul Wall is currently preparing for the March 24th release of his third album, Fast Life
