Buzzing Cleveland, Ohio rapper, Machine Gun Kelly, is officially a Bad Boy! The young rapper announced Tuesday (August 2) that he's become the newest artist on Diddy's iconic label, Bad Boy Records.
MGK, as he's also known as, tasted his first ounce of success when he became the first MC in history to win Amateur Night at the Apollo in March 2009. Two years later, and a lot of leg work, Kelly signed with Bad Boy/Interscope Records.
MGK has garnered a devoted fan following, and has graced the stages of several music festivals, including SXSW and Bamboozle.
"The moment we started the EST 19XX movement, during the recording of the Lace Up mixtape, I made a pledge to my fans to protect our brand and become the honest voice of our generation," MGK says in a label announcement video, posted to Youtube. "We represent the underdogs, the outcast, the uncool. We are a true cult with a loud voice.
"A lot of you may not know who I am, but I want you to. We have such a cult fanbase, because I let them see me. I'm vunerable, just like them," he continued.
MGK caught the attention of Diddy through viral videos, his Lace Up mixtape, and self-made story. The hip-hop mogul calls him "a breath of fresh air."
"MGK is a breath of fresh air. He's not just a star, he's a movement!" says Diddy.
"MGK is a great addition to the Bad Boy team," adds Bad Boy President, Harve Pierre. "He speaks for a generation of kids who are just like him. Fans relate immediately to his lyrics, his flow, and his energetic live performances."
Machine Gun Kelly is now in the studio working on his debut album, Lace Up, set to drop on EST 19XX/Bad Boy/Interscope Records.
