Dr. Dre recently confirmed reports from August, which said that he and Jimmy Iovine had sold off a majority stake in his Beats Electronics to Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer, HTC ... for a reported $309 million.
The good doctor keeps everyone waiting for Detox, he's getting that tech money.
He revealed to GlobalGrind.com recently, that he's trying to build an electronics empire ... and his next release -- outside of headphones -- will be a smartphone.
"I am trying to build my electronics company, Beats Electronics. We just signed a major deal with HTC and we have cell phones coming out in the next two weeks," Dre said. "I am involved in Chrysler; we are in cars right now. My whole thing is to take over everything with a speaker. That is what I am shooting for.
"I am trying to be number 2 to Apple, and number 2 to Apple is not a bad position to be in," he added.
Details about the smartphone is scarce, but it will drop through Verizon in the coming weeks.
If Dre is making all these moves in businesses outside music, then will be even continue to make music? The legendary producer likens music to "oxygen" and he doesn't plan to give it up ... ever.
"I am never going to give music up. Music is like air to me, [music] is like oxygen, so I am always doing that," Dre exclaimed. "As soon as I get back to Los Angeles, I am back in the studio doing my thing. I have a couple of new artists that I am excited about ... Kendrick Lamar and Slim The Mobster. These are the next two artists, and these are probably my final two artists that I am going to be working with at least for the next couple of years. I am going to devote all my attention to them and make sure their sh** comes out the way it should be. I am just having fun with life right now!"
As for Detox, there's still no release date.
