Jay-Z, step aside; Dr. Dre is hip-hop's newest cash cow. The Doctor has topped Forbes'*list of hip-hop's 20 biggest earners, released earlier today. The achievement comes just over a week since he was ranked No. 5 on the magazine's highest-paid celebrities list.
The legendary West Coast producer/MC pulled in a whopping $110 million this past year; a large portion of that thanks to his mega successful Beats by Dre headphone line, which sold 51% of its stake to HTC for $300 million last August.
Fellow high rankers, Diddy and Jay-Z, who sit at No. 2 and 3 respectively, also laughed their way to the bank this year with ventures outside of music. Diddy earned $45 million, thanks mostly to his shares in Ciroc vodka, while Hov's earnings totalled $38 million, helped by ownership stakes in various brands such as the Brooklyn Nets.
