After being on Hip-Hop radio in Shreveport, Louisiana and Dallas, Texas for years and spinning some of the South’s most popular records, DJ Hollyhood Bay Bay has signed with Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group.
After months of speculation and rumors, Rick Ross stamped “Bay Bay’s” Anwhat Entertainment movement with the official MMG stamp of approval via a Twitter post saying “@rickyrozay: @hollyhoodbaybay welcome to the Untouchable Empire @MaybachMusicGrp !!!!!!”
What it all means is still speculative as neither artist has commented on the terms of the deal the time of press, but Louisiana and Texas will tell you Hollyhood Bay Bay earned his stripes.
Bay Bay’s name has a familiar ring to many Hip-Hop fans across the country as his name is chanted in Hurricane Chris’ song “A Bay Bay” released in 2007 on his project, 51/50 Ratchett, a project some Hip-Hop historians regard as the start of the “ratchet” movement now popular across the country.
In the song Hurricane Chris pays respect to DJ Hollyhood Bay Bay, who then spun records at KoKo Pellis, a club in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Bay Bay was reportedly so popular that the crowd would chant “Ay, Bay Bay, Ay, Bay Bay” whenever he’d enter the club and it soon became part of the local nomenclature when “Bay Bay” entered the scene.
DJ Hollyhood Bay Bay was also mentioned on the Source’s Power 30 list having played a key role in many of the records that surfaced out of Louisiana and Texas over the past 10 years.
Earlier this year Rick Ross also made a move to sign DJ Scream’s stamping his Hoodrich Entertainment brand as well, no word on if Ross plans on signing any other DJs as of now.
