  • Slick Rick Makes Royal Return To Brooklyn, Gets Shoutouts From Amber Rose, Raekwon

Legendary Hip-Hop artist Slick Rick celebrated his birthday with a sold out performance along with his friends, family and a sold out crowd at Brooklyn Bowl in New York.

With a full band and DJ, the London native tore though the best of his songs receiving a wild reception from those in attendance. Suddenly, after the performance, he was greeted on stage with a birthday cake and a celebration broke out. Amber Rose, Raekwon, Talib Kweli, Special Ed, Biz Markie, Chubb Rock, MC Lyte, MTV’s Sway and others recorded video birthday shout-outs that were played over the venue’s many television screens.

Slick Rick told AllHipHop.com exclusively his feelings on the evening.

“Last night was an incredible night for me as well as the Golden Era of Hip-Hop. It is always great to see and perform for my fans, but to share my birthday with them at the Brooklyn Bowl was out of this world,” the rapper exclaimed. This was the third year the rapper celebrated his birthday at Brooklyn Bowl.

“The highlight of the night was the Birthday Shout Out Video from my peers. I was shocked and honored by all the kind words and stories about my career. To sum it up, I am blessed, and humbled by all the love for all of the years.”

Slick Rick is a pioneering Hip-Hop artist of the Golden Era, widely revered for his ability to tell vivid stories. He’s most renown for albums like The Great Adventures of Slick Rick, The Ruler’s Back, The Art of Storytelling, and his work with other artists like OutKast, Raekwon, Dougie Fresh, and Jay-Z.

The last time Slick Rick performed in Brooklyn (November 26, 2012), the Hip-Hop legend received a frigid response from a less-than-informed audience at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The disrespect sparked outrage in the Hip-Hop community. Even Rick Ross said, “F**k yall – Salute Slick Rick The Ruler.” AllHipHop scribe Skyhook penned an introspective story “C’mon, Wake Up, Have Some Understanding”: Thoughts On A Ruler.”

None of the confusion was present last night and Rick celebrated the rest of the evening with his loved ones, including his wife Mandy.
