Although he said numerous time during the promotion of 2008's LAX that it'd be his last album, The Game can't say away and is pulling a Jay-Z by coming out of retirement even before he could relax.
Less than a year after his last album, the Compton rapper is back in the lab working on his fourth studio LP, The R.E.D. Album. Despite the immediate notion some might connection to his gang background -- red being the color of choice -- the rapper says the album stands for something totally different. That's his re-dedication to hip-hop.
"The R.E.D. Album, people think the R.E.D. stands for gangbanging. I am what I am. ... R.E.D. -- that's rededicated. Rededicated to hip-hop ... to my hood, Compton. Rededicated to my family, rededicated to everything," Game tells MTV.
Game revealed to MTV that the upcoming album would drop by the end of 2009, and he's already in the studio making sure that happens.
He's already enlisted producers such as Timbaland, J.R. Rotem, Drumma Boy and former Aftermath producer Mike Lynn, and hopes to nab both Cool & Dre and Kanye West in the near future.
"The R.E.D. Album is about to be serious, man," he promised. "It's a step up. The R.E.D. Album, it's a little soulful, I gotta say. Still gangsta -- we getting it in. I'm keeping everything on wraps right now.
"This album ... it's gonna be different," Game continued. "I was wondering to myself how I'm gonna elevate myself and even change the field. Three albums ... what do you talk about after three albums? I ain't selling crack and gangbanging and shooting sh** up. My beefs have been down-low. So what do you really talk about? I just wanna rap, man. I just wanna do music. Whatever it turns out to be, it turns out to be. Long as every song has that collective feel -- they gel -- then we good. I'm just gonna rap this time."
