G-Unit leader 50 Cent recently spoke on his initial lack of motivation within the rap game and why his long-awaited album Before I Self Destruct will likely be released next fall.
Discussing his recent collaboration with Latin rap duo Wisin Y Yandel, Fif discussed his current struggles with hip-hop.
"What I fell in love with and inspired me to get into hip-hop is dwindling away," he explained in an interview. "I'd like to be a representation of that, because there isn't much of that left. I think people are so conscious of the numbers they're not being creative anymore. I've received nothing but positive feedback on this collaboration. And it's a surprise because it's playing in a space where you wouldn't traditionally hear 50 Cent. It's exciting and it's a whole new charge of energy for the person that is tuning in...I wrote, directed and produced the project. With the purchase of the CD you get the film. I wanted my audience to see it, because I was inspired by what I wrote on the album...I feel music marks time, and there's a lot of great music being made now that doesn't completely match the time period...When these guys finish mixing I'll finish making the decisions. People look at my projects as if it's only 50, but it's really 50 Cent up to Dr. Dre and Eminem standards. (Billboard)
Fif previously described how much his album has changed since it was originally slated to drop last December.
"It's about 30 percent of what I had when I felt I was finished," Fif explained in an interview regarding the saved material. "The production [changed.] Dre made a lot more of the music that's on the actual album and I re-wrote some concepts 'cause to me sometimes, it would sound like I'm absolutely out my mind if I play you the music but it gets dated because I've been playing it to myself for so long that I'm no longer as excited as I was for the first time, so I'm making new material and adding it to the actual project. I've been conceptually doing some things that directly apply to the initial concept of Before I Self Destruct and I wrote, produced and directed my first screen play. It'll actually be in the album packaging." (MTV)
He also said the project would drop last month following Em's long-awaited release.
"My album Before I Self Destruct will be out in May," he said in an interview earlier this year. "My record kinda got moved back because Eminem's record will be coming out before me because Dre will have completed his project before I can get Dre to finish the pieces I need to complete my project." (ABC Now)
50 discussed additional reasons behind his fourth album's delay earlier this year citing his role as an artist compared to his Shady Records boss.
"Right now I'm on the train and the Em choo choo car goes first," Fif said in an interview. "See what happens is I think that people forget that I'm actually Eminem's artist because I've had so much success on my own and I moved away from it." (Associated Press)
