  • Jay Z Catching Heat For Five Percent Nation *Medallion

“I’m ready to chase a Yakub back in a cave,” rapped Jay Z on his “We Made It” verse with Jay Electronica. The line may have gone over a lot of people’s heads, but those familiar with the teachings of the Five Percent Nation caught the reference.

It appears the Hip Hop mogul’s supposed connection with the Nation of Gods and Earths is now catching criticism. Most notably, the star medallion associated with the group seen around Jay’s neck at a Brooklyn Nets game has publications like the New York Post implying the rapper is supporting racism by wearing the chain.

The Five Percent Nation was founded by Clarence 13X in 1963 after splitting with the Nation Of Islam. Five Percenters believe that the Black man was the original man, the creator of civilization, and the personification of God.

Their name derives from the idea that 10% of the population (the elites) manipulates and controls 85% of the population that is unaware of the true nature of human control. The remaining 5% work to enlighten that 85% of the truth.

This is not the first time that Jay was seen with a similar medallion. He also wore a piece during an interview with The Breakfast Club last year.

Even Five Percenters are apparently questioning Jay’s decision to wear the medallion as well.

“Jay Z is not an active member — no one has vouched for him” said 5 Percent representative Saladin Allah to The Post. “It was always understood that you don’t wear the *regalia if you don’t totally subscribe to the life.”
