  • Dr. Dre Scrapped "Detox" For New Album Title, Says Producer Dawaun Parker

Parker: "The album he's working on is not called 'Detox.'"

Dr. Dre may release another album, but it won't be called Detox, according to Dawaun Parker, a producer who has worked with Dre, Eminem and 50 Cent, among others, over the course of his career.

"The album he’s working on is not called Detox,” Parker says in an interview with Jeff Weiss and Nocando for the duo's Shot's Fired Podcast. "He scrapped Detox a couple of years ago and came up with another title. I won’t say what the title is 'cause I haven’t seen that online or anything yet.”

Parker, who says he's worked on several potential album cuts for Dre, says he believes the man behind Aftermath will release the new album one day.

"The music is there," Parker adds. "I feel like one day, [Dr. Dre is] gonna wake up and say, ‘Today’s the day,’ and put it out. The music’s been there."

Parker, who reveals Busta Rhymes' "Get You Some" was initially meant for Dr. Dre, explains that he only mentions this album news now because he’s seen Marsha Ambrosius discuss Detox’s status during a June 2014 interview with Rap-Up.

"Detox was a title that was thrown around so many years ago," she said at the time. "There’s so many other things in the works for you to not have to be concerned about anyone detoxing. It sounds like a fitness center now. No, you’ll see something else.”

Dr. Dre's Detox has been an often-delayed and much discussed project for several years. In 2012, DJ Quik said he believed Dre would never release Detox. "I don't really believe that Dr. Dre's gonna release [Detox]," he said at the time. "I think he's kind of over it and rightfully so. If he does put it out, it's gonna come out without the fanfare." In 2013, Game echoed Quik's comments, saying it would "never" be released. "Detox, it's like Jesus," he said at the time. "Will you ever get to see Jesus? It's like a Hip Hop Jesus." This year, DJ Yella said he wouldn't release Detox if he was Dr. Dre.
