Royce Da 5'9 talks about how Shady Records is like Apple.
Fans know Shady Records is set to release SHADY XV, a compilation double album that is slated to feature the imprint's greatest hits and new material, but little else has been made public about the project. Royce Da 5'9, who is scheduled to appear on the album, says he doesn't know too much about it, either.
"The way that they roll things out over there they kind of keep everything kinda tight lipped," Royce says in an interview with XXL's Dan Rys. "They’re a lot like Apple over there. I know that there’s a piece of work that they’re putting out, they’re calling it a compilation, and there’s gonna be music that was released before to commemorate that first release, and then there’s gonna be new music. That’s all I know."
Royce confirms that he has been working with Eminem on new material and that the project is set to feature Bad Meets Evil, along with Slaughterhouse and other Shady acts.
With a history that includes the aforementioned groups, Bad Meets Evil and Slaughterhouse, Royce says his joint album with DJ Premier came together in an organic fashion, much like the creation of his other group endeavors.
"There’s never been anything more organic in my career besides Slaughterhouse and Bad Meets Evil," he says. "It’s kinda like, Bad Meets Evil started from a song, me and Em were just close friends, it made sense. Slaughterhouse house was some wild… Me and Joe was beefin’, we decided we was gonna work. But then he called me the day that my daughter was born, I’m sittin’ in the hospital, I ran to the studio to do the verse for him, and then the fans just kinda made us a group. It feels the exact same way. That’s how I know it’s right."
