Exclusive: DJ Quik talks about his upcoming album, which he recorded on tape.
Before going on stage at the Sunset Strip Music Festival in Los Angeles Sunday (September 21), DJ Quik discussed his forthcoming The Midnight Life album, which is slated for an October 14 release.
“Ya’ll are gonna love that muh’fucka,” DJ Quik says of the album in an exclusive interview that premiered in the DX Daily today (September 24). “[I] got El DeBarge doing Marvin Gaye shit. Most expensive album I’ve ever done. Worth every dime."
The Compton rapper/producer/actor says that The Midnight Life was expensive because of how he recorded it.
"That’s the trick,” he says. “It’s on tape. The same tape Guns N' Roses went on. The same tape muh’fuckin’ Con Funk Shun and The Whispers and Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield and fuckin' Teddy Pendergrass. All that shit. It’s just that tape… Gotta put it on that God damn tape.”
