In 1996 Cool C was convicted of first degree murder for the same year shooting death of Lauretha Vaird, a Philadelphia police officer who attempted to end a botched robbery attempt by C and an accomplice. At a subsequent hearing, Cool C was sentenced to death.
After serving the last 18 years in prison Cool C now has a death date as it was recently announced the Philly native will be put to death via lethal injection on January 8, 2015. He originally was sentenced to die on March 9, 2006, however Pennsylvania's governor granted a delay of the execution.
Cool C is perhaps best known as a member of C.E.B., a 1980s Philadelphia Hip Hop group who was considered a Liberty City version of Juice Crew. In 1989 C released his debut and highest acclaimed album I Gotta Habit, which contained the single "The Glamorous Life," a Billboard-charting track and Juice Crew diss.
