Suge Knight’s lawyer Matthew Fletcher says that his client’s poor eyesight will be a focal point in his murder defense.
Just a few days after TMZ released alleged footage of the hit-and-run Suge Knight was reportedly involved with in late January, Knight’s lawyer Matthew Fletcher revealed that the former CEO of Death Row Records is legally blind in his left eye.
According to The New York Daily News, Knight’s lawyer said that his client’s inadequate eyesight will be a “focal” point in his murder defense.
Knight was reportedly stumbling from punches to his face when he ran over and killed his alleged friend Terry Carter on January 29 outside of Tam's Burgers near the 1200 block of West Rosecrans Avenue in Los Angeles.
Continuing, Knight’s lawyer Matthew Fletcher says that considering his client's visual impairment, it wasn’t a viable option for him to veer left down the street behind Tam’s Burgers after he first reversed to escape a physical confrontation at his driver-side window.
"How can he go left if he can’t see?” Fletcher said.
According to Fletcher, Knight believed he was the victim of an armed assault and was left with no choice but to drive over Cle “Bone” Sloan and Terry Carter.
However, Bone’s manager recently denounced such claims saying that his client did not have a gun in his possession on the day of the incident.
“This was a literal presentation of being blindsided,” Fletcher says. “He was attacked on his blind side. To me it seems obvious. He’s being punched in the face, he can’t see.”
Knight’s lawyer added: “If you are reasonably in fear for your life, with two or three men attacking you, you have the right not only to fight back but to pursue the person who put you in that peril.”
