  • The Charts: Maxwell Returns In Big Way — Tops The Charts

After a nearly eight year hiatus from music, singer Maxwell comes back in a big way to beat out all albums this week and top the Billboard 200.

The singer's new album, BLACKsummers'night, lands at no. 1, recording a career high sales week for Maxwell with 316,000 copies sold. The new album is his second chart-topper. His last set, 2001's Now, also opened at no. 1 with a then-best 296,000 copies sold.

Later, the Black Eyed Peas' The E.N.D. continues to sell strong, landing at no. 5 with 63,000 copies sold; and then at no. 9 was Eminem's Relapse with 34,000.

To close out the top tier (top 20), Jeremih's self-titled debut nose dived to no. 15 in its second week, selling 28,500 copies.

As for new releases, we have Alchemist and Cage.

ALC's new project Chemical Warefare took the no. 63 spot to open, selling 7,000 copies. Cage's new album, Depart From Me, debuts at no. 133 with 3,700 copies sold.

According to Billboard.com, overall album sales in this past chart week (ending July 12) totaled 7.27 million units, up 4.5% compared to the sum last week (6.96 million) and down 0.75% compared to the same sales week of 2008 (7.33 million).
