  • Favourite rappers/albums (besides 2Pac)

Just for clarification, there is NO hate intended towards Pac by not "allowing" his name or albums to be included in your lists, it's just that we're already on a 2Pac forum and I wanted to know what everyone's tastes are besides the obvious (2Pac). It could create some interesting discussions about certain rappers and albums.

I don't know about albums, I only like a few songs from each i guess. I am not HUGE rap fan. No offense to you but I listen to Illmatic for the first time ever earlier this year from start to finish just to see what the hype was about because I don't really like Nas..........least favorite album I ever heard lol. Just my opinion though, good topic.

Favorite album is certainly The Eminem Show, i grew up on that shit.

I grew up listening to old eminem, so sometimes its hard to accept what he is doing these days, but at the same it is for the best dude is not hooked on drugs anymore.

i dont really listen to much rap music outside of tupac tho i do listen to the old death row albums ,chronic,doggystyle,etc...
when it comes to rap im not into all the technical aspects of the rhymes as much as i am the overall message of the song.

im more into heavy metal, sludge metal and grunge
slayer, slipknot ,eyehategod, bongzilla, nirvana, mad season

This is widely regarded as THE greatest Hip-Hop album of all time, and there's a good reason why; the album has everything: incredible production from some the greatest producers of all time, vivid storytelling, Nas' flow is immaculate, impeccable, his delivery, cadence, rhythms and rhyme patterns are flawless. Not to mention his phenomenal lyrical and technical ability throughout the album; he displayed the usage of many poetic and literary techniques, using immensely complex rhyme schemes (multisyllabic, internals, couplets, layered, etc.), metaphors, wordplay, syllables, alliteration, assonance, enjambment, and other devices and techniques. Nas was being hailed as the next Rakim for his lyrical ability by everybody who had heard him. On top of that, what makes this album so great is the is the quality in every single song throughout it. You might have songs that you favor on the album, but there is genuinely only one decent track (One Time 4 Your Mind) in an otherwise almost flawless track list; it's just incredibly consistent and cohesive - a complete piece of work. It's Hip-Hop in its truest form, and Nas was ahead of his time with this one.

Some people just find Nas boring, and there's not much you can do about that. For instance, I find MF DOOM boring at times. I can't stand his flow and delivery for the most part, he's not energetic with it and he sounds uninterested with what he's saying. But what I can appreciate and recognize is his lyrical and creative ability, he's incredibly talented in that regard, and he has stellar production, so it usually works out in the end.
Nah man, I just like what I like. I just didn't enjoy it, Nas may be talented with his rhymes but I just find him boring, same with K. Lamar. Everyone says how he's so great but I don't enjoy his stuff.

This is what my mind hears when listening to Nas songs

              --------------------------*-----_-----*---------------

Now this is what I hear when I listen to say Spice-1

              **()(_)_)$##^#^^**(*(((___)#(((#_((#_--3----

There is just more personality and dynamics. Hard to explain lol.

Other than 2Pac, as much as I enjoy all sorts of rappers - most of them I can only take in small doses these days. I much prefer listening to my personal compilations rather than an entire album by one particular artist.

With that said, some other rappers/rap groups/hip hop I enjoy, include:

                    213
                    Biggie
                    Dr Dre
                    Eazy-E
                    Eminem
                    Freddie Gibbs
                    Hieroglyphics
                    Ice Cube
                    Jurassic 5
                    LBC Crew
                    Rick Ross
                    Slaughterhouse
                    Too $hort
                    Westside Connection
                    Wu-Tang Clan

I believe it is the apex of his work indeed. hes started with three great albums back to back, reaching a legendary status with TES. alot of people say he fell off afterwards, but i dont believe its true, he releast some of his most deadliset work after TES. I find that relapse contains some of his best work aswell, lyrics wise, story telling, flow, etc. With songs such as Stay Wide Awake, Deja Vu,. The way he chops the words. I didnt mind the accent that much lol. Then came the "new era", where he switched from MC to full artist and started making love songs. The thing is the anger is gone, some of his latest work it's only good if its personal like Headlights. I dont know if you heard his verse on Medicine Man but i found that verse pretty exciting to hear, reminded me of the old EM for a minute there.

Eminem had definitely declined in quality after The Eminem Show with Encore, Relapse, and Recovery. Not as much on Relapse, but some of the accents on that album are unbearable and unlistenable for me. "Beautiful", "Deja Vu" and a few others songs are nice, but the rest of the album is meh.

His verse on "Medicine Man" was great, his best verse in 2015 by far and maybe his best since MMLP2.

I would rank Eminem's top 3 albums in this order:

                        - The Slim Shady LP
                        - The Marshall Mathers LP
                        - The Eminem Show

But you know I feel like Encore over shadowed the fact that he released alot of deadly diss tracks around that time lol. But just to prove my point of eminem being more of an artist, is his latest work effort, on The Weeknd The Hills remix. For what is it, it is surprisingly good imo. Don't look for eminem to spit bar, but he blend in it nicely.

Encore, Relapse, and Recovery all have thier share of good tracks, but overall the projects are pretty wack to be honest. Just look at some of the worse songs on Encore, "Puke", "My 1st Single", "Big Weenie", "Ass Like That" (and people wonder how Eminem messed up Loyal to the Game that same year).

                            - Encore - Like Toy Soldiers, Mockingbird, Yellow Brick Road.
                            - Relapse - Deja Vu, Same Song & Dance, Beautiful.
                            - Recovery - No Love, Ridaz.

THere's alot of tracks from Encore that leaked prior to the release date so he constantly had to replace them. I've read somewhere that he started workig on Encore right after The Eminem show but due to filming, producing D12 and 50 Cent he had to push the album back. Imagine if he actually released the way it was suppose to be, it would of been a different album. But i agree, songs like Big Weenie, My 1st single, are not worthy of Eminem. I like Relapse except for a few songs and the refill tracks were pretty solid aswell imo. Like Music Box, track is dope.

Throwed and I made a few tracklists of eminem solo work and where he is a featured as an artist. I'll send it to you once it is completed. There's one tracklist we've arranged it has him featuring with Kid rock, Skam, Royce, Redman, Method Man, Masta Ace, The high and Mighty, etc.
