The Clipse recently spoke on working alongside Pharrell for their forthcoming 'Til The Casket Drops album and what fans could expect from its release.
Claiming the producer helped finalize the overall project, Clipse said the upcoming LP would give off the same vibes as their 2002 debut, Lord Willin'.
"He came through with the clean sweep at the end," Clipse told radio personality Jenny Boom Boom. "We were basically like, we want hip-hop on steroids. We in a good space, we want that energy, we want that [feeling like] the first Clipse album. It was raw, a little bit more uptempo. It was hip-hop on steroids. And Pharrell creates for us. He don't go and knock off dust from old beats, he literally stops what he's doing and creates fresh joints. Sometimes we fight, disagreeing over music. We go back to the drawing board but that's what we gotta do, we gotta push each other." (Jenny Boom Boom TV)
Pusha T recently said the album would drop later this year, missing out on its initial summer 2009 release.
"Third album by The Clipse is entitled Till The Casket Drops," Pusha T said in an interview earlier this month. "It's coming out late September, as far as production on it, a majority of it is by The Neptunes...Till The Casket Drops is just what we say down in Virginia. It's usually in relation to saying you saying you not gonna stop, the hustle ain't gonna stop." (Rap-Up)
Pusha also hinted at the various artists attached to the project.
"I mean production by the Neptunes, features from Keri Hilson, Kanye West, Cam'ron, Pharrell," Pusha said in an interview last month. "We just put together an amazing album and I'm really happy about that." Other names attached to the album include Timbaland, Scott Storch, P. Diddy and Danjahandz. (Much Music)
Def Jam co-founder Rick Rubin also stepped up to help produce tracks for the group's third LP.
Legendary producer Rick Rubin has been working on tracks for the Clipse's long-awaited third album this month, the rap duo's camp tells EW. Rubin, who signed the Clipse to Columbia Records shortly after taking over as the label's co-chairman in 2007, has completed one tune with them so far in a Malibu studio; they plan to work with him on one to two more in the coming weeks. (Entertainment Weekly)
'Til The Casket Drops is slated to be released October 2009.
