Initial reports said the rapper was performing alongside Lil Wayne when he collapsed.
My girl Marisa is backstage tonite at the "America's Most Wanted" show in Camden, New Jersey and just filled me in on the worst-case scenario that just happened onstage : ( According to her and other witnesses, Drake and Lil Wayne were performing "Best I Ever Had" when Drake was moving across the stage and did a spin move he must have turned his already-injured knee while spinning, because Drake suddenly collapsed on the stage. "He put his head down because he was in so much pain," and then 4 guys ran out on the stage and had to carry him off. Lil Wayne was left onstage in a state of confusion. (Miss Info)
Following the incident, Drake sent a message to fans via his friend Niko's Twitter.
"We straight," he wrote. "Just to show that this acl sh*t aint a joke. Drizzy said 'thanks for the support, and we'll be back.... Young moola." (Niko's Twitter)
Drake later resorted to his own Twitter to assure fans of his stable status after the unexpected collapse.
"All is well...," he wrote. "on the bus laying down...getting surgery this week but I'm walking. Thank my whole YM family for the help. Lion Hearts!" (Drake's Twitter)
The rapper previously said he would remain on the Young Money tour despite doctor's orders of precaution.
"I didn't really get any approval from my doctor, but I made a personal decision 48 hours ago that I'd be letting a lot of people down if I didn't show up and at least show them I'm there for them," Drake said in an interview. "For the last two weeks, I've been really going hard, getting all types of acupuncture, trying to bring the swelling down. I'm walking around -- no cane. I'll put a brace on it tomorrow night. No one will probably even know I'm injured...I'm not doing my own set. That's one thing I have to apologize to my fans about. It's too much of a risk, if I hit that wrong turn [doing] 30 minutes every night. If I tear my ACL again, the doctors say I might not be able to walk again. I have to be cautious." (MTV)
