  • CJ Miles drawing serious interest from the Lakers

C.J. Miles continues to explore free agent options and has narrowed decision to a few teams. Could sign in next 2-3 days.

There are several pros and cons to this potential signing based on the Lakers' current roster.

C.J. Miles, a combo guard/forward, would fill the void Matt Barnes has left behind. After Metta World Peace, the Lakers do not have a reliable player who can back up the small forward position.

Last year, Barnes provided the Lakers with hustle play and off-ball movement, but was ineffective beyond those roles. He was a shaky perimeter shooter and became a defensive liability as the season wore on.

C.J. Miles lacks the perimeter shot the Lakers desperately need, as evidence by his career 41% field goal and 32% three-point percentages.

Unfortunately for the Lakers, his shooting numbers have not improved throughout the course of his career, they have actually worsened. Last season he shot a dismal 38 percent from the field, and 30 percent from long range.

For a Lakers squad that features two elite big men in Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum, floor spacing is absolutely crucial to this team's success. Without players who can consistently knock down outside shots, opponents will be able to clog the lane with double-teams and added pressure, ultimately causing turnovers and offensive meltdowns. (Remember last season?)

Also, with the recently signed Antawn Jamison, the Lakers could become hard pressed for bench offense once again, as both Miles and Jamison have had their share of struggles from the field.

The silver lining is that Miles would bring speed, athleticism, and youth, which the Lakers' current roster — at an average age of 32.7 years old — sorely lacks.

If you need a reminder of what Miles could provide, check out this YouTube highlight.

He wouldn't be the best fit for the Lakers' current chemistry, unless they can add a player like Jodie Meeks or Leandro Barbosa to the fold — players who are also drawing interest from Los Angeles.

Either of said players would spread the floor nicely, opening up space for Jamison, and potentially Miles, to operate.

While the finishing touches are being put on a roster that is already primed to contend, one thing is for certain: C.J. Miles would be a nice step towards infusing youth into the Lakers' prehistoric legs.

He'd be a solid pickup IMO. We're also interested in getting Meeks. If we could get both that'd be great

    Nash
    Kobe
    World Peace
    Pau
    Bynum

    That's a sick starting 5.

    Blake
    Meeks
    Miles
    Jamison
    Hill

That's a solid bench right there.

^ Definitely, but it's ok if we don't. Anyways it looks like Miles is going to Cleveland. Oh well.
