Despite demanding a trade, which was later obliged via a blockbuster trade that sent him to the Los Angeles Lakers, superstar Dwight Howard says he still has "love" for his former NBA city, Orlando.
According to ESPN.com, the superstar center took out a full-page advertisement in Sunday's (September 2) Orlando Sentinel, offering a message to fans and locals who supported him over the years. In it, Howard expresses his "love" for the city and a gratitude for the chance to play there, calling it "a blessing" and "a privilege."
"To play the game of basketball in the NBA is a blessing and to have had the opportunity to play before the Orlando fans for eight years was truly a privilege and an honor," he says in the advertisement. "Words cannot express the love that I have for Orlando. With your support we have done great things in this city from hanging banners to impacting our youth."
The message is featured below a montage of seven photographs showing Howard with fans, on the court with teammates and holding an oversized check at an apparent charity event.
"Although my career with the Magic has come to a close, my love for the city and the people that make it beautiful will never end," the ad says.
