Things just aren't getting any better for the Los Angeles Lakers. They're actually getting worse, with news that both Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol have been sidelined indefinitely due to injury.
According to ESPN.com, Howard will sit out with a torn labrum in his right shoulder while Gasol has a concussion.
Lakers sources told the network Monday (January 7) that they're cautiously optimistic Howard's injury isn't that severe and will heal within a week or two. Holding him out in the short term is "more precautionary," one source said. He will be re-examined in a week, according to the team.
Gasol was injured after taking a blow to the face from Denver's JaVale McGee in the fourth quarter on Sunday (January 6). He will not travel with the team.
Back-up big man Jordan Hill will be out for a short time as well, after suffering a hip injury during the game Sunday. So, for now, it's forwards Antawn Jamison, Earl Clark and Devin Ebanks filling in, as well as rookie center Robert Sacre, who would be called up from the Los Angeles D-Fenders.
