  • Dirk Nowitzki Surpasses Wilt Chamberlain On All-Time Free Throws Made List

Dallas Mavericks superstar, Dirk Nowitzki, moved past Wilt Chamberlain Saturday night (February 9) and into 15th place on the NBA's all-time free throws made list.

According to NBA.com, Dirk accomplished the milestone in his 1,076th career game, hitting 6,059 free throws made on 6,910 attempts, which equals out to 87.7% (tied for 13th all-time with Jeff Hornacek).

Just four other active players have have better career free-throw percentages than the German NBA pro -- #1 Steve Nash (90.4), #5 Chauncey Billups (89.4), #6 Ray Allen (89.3) and #1 2 Kevin Durant (88.2).

From here, Dirk needs to average just under 4.0 made free throws in the final 32 games of the regular season to pass Bob Pettit (6,182). He's also 317 away from overtaking the #1 0 spot from Allen Iverson (6,375).

hmm I always thought Wilt was known to be a terrible free-throw shooter? I'm looking at his stats and he was a 54% FT shooter.

EDIT: just looking at his FT made/attempts, wow.
