After being dropped by the Phoenix Suns, following a recent marijuana possession arrest, Michael Beasley is returning to the team he started his NBA career with: the Miami Heat.
The troubled forward signed a contract with Miami on Wednesday (September 11), where he'll get another shot to prove his worth in the NBA.
According to the Associated Press, Beasley's contract was bought out earlier this month by the Suns, after the former #2 pick in the 2008 draft was arrested in Arizona on marijuana charges in early August.
"Michael had the best years of his career with us," Heat President Pat Riley said. "We feel that he can help us."
Beasley is set to report to training camp with the Heat on October 1st.
A person familiar with the situation told the AP that Miami initially had no interest in bringing Beasley back, but things changed when the 24-year-old offered to accept a non-guaranteed contract.
Miami traded Beasley to Minnesota in July 2010, where he played two seasons before he signing a three-year deal with the Suns worth $18 million last season. However, his off-court troubles would result in the NBA player being released.
Last season, he notched career lows in 10.1 points and 3.8 rebounds on 40.5-percent shooting.
