The Brooklyn Nets took a big hit this week, as reports come in that All-Star center Brook Lopez will be out for the season with a broken foot, reports ESPN.com.
The 7-footer broke the surgically repaired right foot that he fractured in 2011 during Friday night's (Dec. 20) game against the Philadelphia 76ers, which the lost in overtime. Though he played through the injury, staying on the floor for 44 minutes and finishing with 22 points and seven rebounds, the bad news came after when he underwent X-rays.
Lopez was averaging 20.7 points and six rebounds this season.
The Nets (9-17) have been plagued by injuries this season, which had high expectations following the addition of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Jason Terry.
In addition to Lopez, the team has lost point guard Deron Williams, Pierce, Kirilenko and Jason Terry to injuries at various points this season.
