As announced over the summer, the Charlotte Bobs will undergo a name change next season, reverting back to the Hornets. On Saturday (Dec. 21), the team took the next step, as Chairman Michael Jordan unveiled the franchise's new logo and brand identity.
The franchise's new logos were introduced during an on-court halftime ceremony. It utilizes the old color scheme of purple and teal, and features a newly-designed, aggressive-looking hornet ready for attack with raised antennae, expanded wings and pointed stinger.
"The logos are the foundation of an organization's brand identity, and our goal was to design logos that would have awareness, be relevant and resonate with our fans," said Bobcats Sports & Entertainment President & COO Fred Whitfield. "We developed a logo that physically depicted the characteristics and DNA of the type of team we want on the court, as well as those of hornets and the city of Charlotte."
As part of the unveiling, the Hornets announced that the beloved "Hugo" will officially return to Buzz City as the team's mascot.
Charlotte will begun using the Hornets name during the 2014-15 season. New merch will be available at the Bobcats team store on Jan. 18. For more info, visit BackBuzzCity.com.
