  • Michael Jordan Tops 'Highest-Paid Retired Athletes' LIst

There's been a lot of coverage in recent years about retired athletes who have mismanaged their finances and ended up broke shortly after their professional careers had ended. Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Allen Iverson and Antoine Walker are among a list of sports stars who earned more than $100 million during the course of their careers and squandered almost all of it.

Forbes, this week, released a list of the highest-paid retired athletes.

Topping the list, as many should expect, is Michael Jordan. Despite last playing in 2003, Jordan has earned an estimated $90 million in 2013, thanks to a variety of business deal, endorsement, and of course, the Charlotte Bobcats.

Forbes says Nike's Jordan Brand is worth roughly $2 billion, and Michael gets a cut of every Jordan shoe, hoodie and other apparel items sold under the name. He also earns money from endorsement deals with Gatorade, Hanes, Upper Deck and Five Star Fragrances, as well as 2K Sports for the NBA 2K gaming franchise.

At #2 is golfing legend Arnold Palmer, earning an estimated $40 million last year, despite retiring in 2006. His renuve comes from his Arnold Palmer line of drinks, while the licensing of his name also brings in big bucks.

David Beckham just retired in 2013, but was able to pull in $37 million for third place, thanks to deals with H&M, and Coty cologne, among others.

Golf legend Jack Nicklaus lands at #4 with $30 million -- he retired in 2005. And finally, Magic Johnson closes out the top 5 with $22 million in earnings last year.
