The Los Angeles Lakers approached the 1982 season with a mission. The previous year, they had been bounced out of the playoffs in the first round by the upstart Houston Rockets. Now, a year later, the Lakers rallied behind Earvin "Magic" Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to storm through the Western Conference playoffs, sweeping both series. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers had raced out to a 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference finals only to watch in horror as Larry Bird and the Celtics fought back to tie the series at three games apiece. In a supreme test of courage, the 76ers ralled to defeat the Celtics at the Boston Garden for the right to face the Lakers in a rematch of the 1980 NBA Finals. The tension is high, the pace furious, and the competition awesome. And you are witness to it all.
