  • Bernard Hopkins Hopes To Regain Title Against Champ Jean Pascal In December

Boxing vet and future Hall of Famer Bernard Hopkins is ready to take on his 59th fight this coming December against young upstart WBC World Champion Jean Pascal during a live fight in Pascal's home of Quebec.

The World Light Heavyweight Championship fight is set to take place on December 18th at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec City, in addition to being televised live on Showtime.

For Hopkins, it's do or die. At 45 years old, he's no spring chicken, but has proven time and time again that age is nothing but a number. However, the seasoned vet understands what's at stake.

"I understand that this fight is win or go home for me. There's really no tomorrow for me..." Hopkins said during a press conference in Toronto on Tuesday (October 19). "Unless I take this fight and I take it impressively and I take it aggressively. My career ends (if I lose). People will be calling for my head.

"Pascal is the guy to beat right now and my motivation to accept his challenge is to show that he is just borrowing that title," he continued.

B-Hop lost the Light Heavyweight title when he was defeated by Joe Calzaghe in a split decision back in April 2008. Since then, he defeated Kelly Pavlik (October 2008 ), Enrique Ornelas (December 2009), and Roy Jones Jr. (April 2010, all by unanimous decision.

As for Pascal, he's 27 and looking to defend his Lightweight title for the fourth time. After dominating former WBC champ Chad Dawson back in August, he hopes to add another notch on his belt with Hopkins.

"It's a very important fight for me. Bernard Hopkins said he made history, that's in the past tense," said Pascal. "I'm going to make history on Dec. 18."

Pascal continued, saying he wants to be the best and by fighting a legend like Hopkins it will help cement his status.

"I don't see a legend in the ring. I see a piece of meat, and I'm a hungry dog. This is my time," he exclaimed. "I belong with the elite boxers. To be the best in the world, you have to face the best. Bernard Hopkins is a legend."

Pascal and Hopkins are currently on the road for a multi-city, two-country press tour, with the final stop coming to New York on Wednesday (October 20).
