Dave Meltzer of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that UFC fighter Brock Lesnar is attempting to get out of his contract in order to return to World Wrestling Entertainment. Lesnar has been seldom heard from since his October 23rd loss to Cain Velasquez, in which he lost the UFC Heavyweight Championship.
After the fight, Lesnar and WWE Superstar Mark “The Undertaker” Calaway got into a verbal scuffle. Many viewed it as a set-up by WWE head Vince McMahon in order to get Lesnar to return to the WWE for Wrestlemania 27, as Lesnar was a member of the company from 2002-2004. UFC President Dana White refused to acknowledge any attempts from McMahon, and refuted Lesnar was interested.
However, Meltzer reports that since the incident, Lesnar has not returned any calls to White, and has spent the time hunting in isolation. He apparently has not trained once since losing to Velasquez, nor has he worked or had contact with any coaches about returning. Meltzer believes Lesnar wants to work Wrestlemania “badly,” and that he could earn over $2 million for just working that single night. It is unknown if he would continue to work past that.
While some speculate that he may do one more fight in the UFC and then head out, one source believes he may be convinced by UFC management to headline the 13th season of the popular show, The Ultimate Fighter, pitting his team against that of Frank Mir. Nothing has been confirmed on that front as of now.
Lesnar is 5-2 in seven career fights in the UFC. Alongside his work in the WWE and UFC, he has spent time at New Japan Pro Wrestling, the National Football League, and K-1 Grand Prix.
