Industry insiders have apparently leaked the possibility of an all-Canadian showdown between Jean Pascal and Lucian Bute.
It is alleged that GYM promotions, who handle the career of Jean Pascal, and Bute's promoter, Interbox, have been around the table discussing this fight for the Bell Centre in May, possibly on HBO.
This throws into jeopardy the proposed Pascal vs Dawson rematch which is agreed by all parties - but is not 'signed' as of yet.
Both Pascal and Bute have lead successful careers without the need to fight one another, but after Bute's heavy knockout defeat to Carl Froch in May 2012, his stock has dramatically fallen.
Pascal has since told the press that he "is concentrating 100%" on the Chad Dawson rematch until he hears anything to the contrary, but made no denials of the situation.
Currently Bute's career path is in limbo, with talk of a Carl Froch rematch going very quiet, despite the Cobra offering to come to Canada whenever he wants.
It was reported on Livefight.com a couple of months ago that it was believed Bute would avoid Froch and pursue the vacant WBC super middleweight title, with Sakio Bika the likely opponent.
Bika won his WBC final-eliminator at the weekend against Nikola Sjekloca and thus has booked his spot for the belt, which was vacated by Andre Ward following shoulder surgery.
Therefore Bute has two directions to consider - a potentially dull rematch with Sakio Bika for a vacant title, or an all-Canadian super fight with countrymen Jean Pascal.
If it is the latter, we would forecast that the fight would take place at a catch weight of circa 172lb.
