  • Vince McMahon Loses 357 Million

Let the body-slam gags begin: World Wrestling Entertainment, the company that brings muscle-bound entertainers to televisions and arenas, got nailed Friday on the New York Stock Exchange.

Shares of the entertainment company fell as investors worried about its new TV deal and prospects for its monthly subscription service.

The count: down $8.66 to $11.27.

WWE's TV deal is with NBC Universal, but investors responded with a shrug. Even Vince McMahon couldn't convince money men the accord would record increased earnings.

The pact announced Thursday will continue WWE's Monday Night Raw on USA Network. Friday Night Smackdown will air on SyFy Network. Both cable/satellite channels are under the Peacock's wings.

The biggest loser on Friday was McMahon, WWE's chairman and CEO. According to Forbes, McMahon lost $357 million, nearly a third of his fortune, in 24 hours.

Here's the problem: Analysts expected a bigger contract. While the pact brings a 70 percent increase in rights fees, WWE had put expectations on steroids. Observers excepted fees would increase two or maybe three times.

WWE's albatross, it appears, is the WWE Network, an online operation launched in February. That enterprise is expected to cost between $42 million and $52 million this year, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Here's the worst of it for McMahon: Investors are calling for management changes, according to Wrestling Observer, an industry publication.

Another negative? WWE isn't a lucrative ad generator, according to The Motley Fool website. Its rates don't match other sports.

"WWE viewers skew toward less attractive demographics," Wrestling Observer's Ben Miller told the Fool. Its "audience fails to spill over into other USA Network shows and, frankly, the networks may have been eager to send a message in response to escalating rights fees."

That message, not word that he is no longer a billionaire, should be the most troubling to McMahon.

Been saying this for a long time. Make a attitude era like show and keep main event and smackdown pg for kids lol

They use to have Shotgun Saturday Night way back int he 90's. Why can't they do something similar to this?

I miss WWF Attitude, now I can't emphasize how corny it is. It should be in the same timeslot as those kindergarten shows. Bananas In
Pajamas, Play School, Teletubbies, Sesame Street

Smackdown & Raw as split brands were much better. I remember watching Bill Goldberg on Raw while Brock Lesnar was in Smackdown back in 2003/2004. The excitement and wishful thinking that one of the superstars from each brand might collide at some point in PPVs was an awesome feeling. Vince lost his mind with his age. He should forget the horrible demographics he is catering to at the moment. If he brought back that real shit, he'd have a gang of fans help his ratings skyrocket back to success. This so called creative team they have right now should all get fired. They should also rehire Vince Russo back.

He was the head-writer of the creative team during the attitude era.

I agree but he is all about the kids, it's one of the reasons why John Cena is one of the most hated wrestlers of all time from a adult perspective. Women and kids love him but adult men despise him because he is so boring, does the same moves over and over and overcomes the odds almost 99.9 percent of the time. They will not turn him heel or change his character because of how much his merchandise sells to the children. He has been the same exact character since 2003-2004. That is unheard of. Even people like Hogan, The Rock, Undertaker, HBK, Bret Hart, Stone Cold etc all turned heel and back to face time and time again.

John needs a change in character and then maybe some of the older generations might support him. But its always the same bullshit. Cena gets beat down, tears shoulder or breaks arm before the match...still wrestles....and wins. Or he is chained to the rope and beaten by Alex Riley and Mizz for 20 minutes straight, somehow gets lose hits a AA and its over.

I mean its way too predictable. Bring back some realism, allow wrestlers to go off script like the Attitude era (like CM PUNK did too). Bring back some Bikini Matches, Diva Mud wrestling lmao. It would work if they had one Adult show and then PG shows for kids

He needs to go back to this! One show for adults and then morning shows and smackdown for kids. It all makes sense lol

but I hope all this makes Vince explore new ideas that he wouldn't have tried before; such as actually bringing back Stone Cold & CM Punk for a match, Maybe Rock Vs Brock next year, Goldberg & Sting Signings. Have more well known wrestlers so viewership goes up. Also perhaps even turning John Cena heel for once.

Hogan and Cena or Hogan and CM Punk should just make a new NWO lmao. You could even bring back Nash. He's still in shape! Could even throw in the Shield of have them as the opposing force.

They're now thinking of possibly making Smackdown go LIVE on Tuesdays permanently.

I don't know if there'll be any other significant changes that come along with it though.

They should, with it being taped...we get a lot of spoilers throughout the week. Live would eliminate that.
