  • Jon Runyan wins seat in Congress...

Former NFL veteran Jon Runyan has been elected to Congress, riding the wave of momentum the GOP enjoyed Tuesday on election day.

Runyan defeated Democratic incumbent John Adler in the Third District of New Jersey, making Adler the only incumbent in the state to fall in the elections.

"I'll give you everything I have to really get this country back on track," Runyan, a Republican, said according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The race between Runyan and Adler drew national attention and money poured in from around the country for both candidates. Adler had more to work with in his war chest, but voter turnout, showing disdain for the two-year run of President Barack Obama, swung with Runyan.

Runyan made it clear near the end of his playing days he would be involved in politics. We’ll see if the 6-7 former right tackle, who spent most of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles, can make a difference in Washington.
