  • New York Jets To Shop Mark Sanchez, Release Tim Tebow

After failing to make the NFL Playoffs, and Greg McElroy being named starting quarterback, sources now say that the New York Jets are set to part ways with both Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow.

According to ESPN.com, the franchise will attempt to trade Mark Sanchez, and part ways with Tim Tebow after the season. However, trading Sanchez may be difficult, because he's due an $8.25 million guarantee in 2013 in his contract.

So far, Sanchez's agent and older brother, Nick Sanchez, said Wednesday night (December 19): "Mark is a Jet and he's going to support the Jets any way he can through the remainder of season." Next season? He declined to comment on that question.

Tebow was long considered the #2 quarterback, behind Sanchez -- he was listed as such from the first day of training camp. He felt he deserved the shot, but Coach Rex Ryan opted for the inexperienced McElroy.

"Obviously, I'm a little disappointed," Tebow said, who played just 70 offensive snaps this week. He was at a loss to explain why the Jets wanted him in the first place. "Some things are hard to understand."

    Stay tuned...
