  • Hellraiser TV Series in the Works...?

Could Pinhead be coming to TV?

In an article in Variety about the company RHI Entertainment rebranding as Sonar Entertainment, a Hellraiser television series is listed among the projects Sonar is currently developing. No story details are revealed, just that Sonar is partnering with Eric Gardner's company Panacea Ent. for Hellraiser and that Gardner and Larry Kuppin would executive produce – it was Kuppin's old movie studio, New World Entertainment, who made the first two Hellraiser films.

After the well received early installments, Hellraiser morphed into a series of straight to video sequels from Dimension. There have frequently been discussions about a straight up remake/reboot of the film franchise, but so far that has yet to occur. Pointedly, Clive Barker, who created the series (based on his own novella) is not mentioned as being involved in the TV series.

Previously, RHI were known for producing many TV movies and miniseries familiar to Syfy viewers. After going through a bankruptcy and the departure of founder Robert Halmi and his son, who ran the company, the company has now rebranded as Sonar.

Among their other TV projects in development are an action series, MPH, from Die Hard screenwriter Steven De Souza, a King Tut miniseries and a two-hour backdoor pilot TV movie for Mirror Mirror, based on the Joshua Williamson graphic novel (yes, that is another Snow White-inspired story, but it has no connection to the kid-aimed Julia Roberts movie that just opened).

There is a section for Hellraiser on Sonar's website, which includes the following description:

One of the most successful (and terrifying) franchises in film history is ready for its weekly television debut.

For over 25 years, fans have followed the exploits of an insidious villain named Pinhead, summoned from a nightmarish underworld by an ancient puzzle box. He will seduce you with power and tempt you with fear, until your soul belongs to him.

Now, for the first time, a weekly series set in the fantastic realm of Hellraiser will thrill audiences worldwide.
