Orci and Kurtzman attached to FOX version.
FOX and The CW could soon be going head-to-head, each network potentially armed with their own pilot adapted from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, FOX will be developing a pilot with hot-ticket writing duo Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Fringe, Star Trek, Transformers). Their dramatic take is described as "a modern-day supernatural thriller based on the 1820 short story in which Ichabod Crane partners with the town's local female sheriff to bring peace to a beleaguered community." Len Wiseman (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard), who directed the Hawaii Five-0 pilot for Orci and Kurtzman, will direct their Sleepy Hollow pilot as well.
Meanwhile, Deadline revealed that The CW is mulling over their own interpretation of the material, with Missing scribes Patrick Macmanus and Grant Scharbo set to pen the script. Likewise, their pilot is a modern take on the classic story, but with Ichabod portrayed as an FBI agent who arrives in Sleepy Hollow to investigate a mysterious beheading.
The CW ran into a similar situation with ABC last development season when both networks were working on their own competing Beauty and the Beast pilots. Fortunately for The CW, their interpretation went to series, while ABC's was dropped.
